Making Metropolis: March 13th, 2013
On March 13th, 2013 the Illinois Institute of Technology College of Architecture (IIT CoA) will celebrate Mies van der Rohe's 127th birthday, his influence on Chicago, and the investiture of Wiel Arets. Seventy-five years ago, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe arrived in the United States to lead IIT's College of Architecture and profoundly influence the world’s taste and built environment. Today, the college begins another era of influence as it celebrates the investiture of Wiel Arets, Rowe Family College of Architecture Dean Endowed Chair.

Advance tickets are required ($50), and entry is complimentary for College of Architecture students, faculty, and staff, with registration. Proceeds go toward finishing the restoration of Mies van der Rohe's Carr Chapel.

6 pm A short video by the Mies Society and Mies biographer Edward Windhorst
NOWNESS, the college's first publication under the direction of Wiel Arets, will be presented at the event.
